FAAN Forces KFC Closure After Refusing Entry to Ex-Ogun Governor's Son Due to Disability


With effect from Thursday, March 28, 2024, the KFC restaurant at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos will close, per an order from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) management.

Section 55 of the General Provisions on Discrimination, Part C of the Lagos State Law on People with Special Needs, states that "A person shall not deprive another person of access to any place, vehicle, or facility that members of the public are entitled to enter or use on the basis of that person's disability." FAAN said that this decision was in line with this provision.

The event happened as a result of a social media post made by Debola Daniel, a passenger with reduced mobility (PRM), who claimed to have experienced discriminatory treatment at the KFC restaurant at Lagos's Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

According to a statement signed by FAAN's Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the MD/CE, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, acted quickly to investigate the allegation against KFC by assembling a management team that included the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the Regional Manager South West, Mr. Sunday Ayodele, the Ag. General Manager Public Affairs, Mrs. Ijeoma Nwosu-Igbo, and Mr. Kerri, the International Terminal Manager.

FAAN has closed the KFC restaurant at the MMA, the scene of the incident, based on the team's findings.
