Minimum wage: Labour’ll reject token addition to N60,000 offer – TUC

The Nigerian government has proposed a new minimum salary of N60,000, which the Trade Union Congress (TUC), has promised to reject.

TUC President Festus Osifo said this on Tuesday during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television.

We also told them that it wouldn't be like you were adding N1, N2, and N3,000 as you were doing, and we had some solid assurances here and there that they would act appropriately, according to Osifo.

  

To demand a higher salary for workers, the TUC and the Nigerian Labour Congress, or NLC, announced an indefinite strike on Monday.

The Nigerian government suggested N60,000, but organized labor requested N494,000.

  

Following a meeting between labour and the government, President Bola Tinubu instructed Finance Minister Wale Edun to provide an analysis of the financial implications of a new minimum wage within 48 hours, and the strike was called off.
