For admission to the Nigerian Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and other distance learning institutes, students must now register through the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board.

This regulation also applies to all applicants and requires them to furnish their unique National Identification Number (NIN) during registration.

According to JAMB, this change is intended to reduce fraudulent activity and ensure the integrity of candidates' records.

The Board issued a recommendation in Abuja expressing its commitment to making the registration procedure as simple as feasible.

The advisory states that JAMB has mandated that all applicants seeking to study in Nigerian tertiary institutions must provide their NIN when registering, regardless of the mode of registration. This is to prevent fraudulent individuals from compromising candidates' records through dubious registration channels.

Furthermore, the advice emphasizes that all prospective candidates in non-regular categories, including NOUN, Distance Learning, Part-time, and Sandwich programs, must create a profile code before enrolling with JAMB.

The Board stated that this can be accomplished by transmitting their NIN via their unique phone number to either of the sort codes (55019 or 66019).

The guideline also applies to past applicants in non-regular programs who have not yet incorporated their NIN or unique phone number into the JAMB platform.

To use any of JAMB's services, they must first register a profile with their unique NINs.

"JAMB, as a responsive organization, will keep the registration procedure as flexible as possible by making its platform available throughout the year.

It is envisaged that candidates in this category will apply through JAMB before approaching their preferred institutions to process their admission using their respective JAMB registration numbers.
