Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, announced during a five-day finance training session for SUBEB Chairmen and Board Secretaries in Ibadan, Oyo State's capital.

According to UBEC Public Relations Officer David Apeh, the executive secretary, the increased matching grants for states undertaking projects are funded by 2% of Nigeria's consolidated revenue budget for basic education assistance.

Bobboyi stated that the permission occurred following the passage of the 2024 Appropriation Bill and subsequent confirmation into law.

He stated, "The 2024 Federal Government Statutory Allocation of the UBE Matching Grant to each State is N3,554,642,584.46."

"This is quite an astonishing sum, isn't it? You know how much we had before. Of course, we must examine how inflation has influenced the grants.

However, it is very promising that the available amount is large for states. When a state provides an additional N3.3 billion, it receives approximately N6.6 billion. Isn't it? In that perspective, it's an acceptable amount if used properly." UBEC Public Relations Officer David Apeh stated.

He noted that around 46 million students were enrolled in schools across the country, and that, according to the Sustainable Development Goals, basic education stops at the secondary level.

He also noted the considerable problems that the commission and all state SUBEBs face, urging them to collaborate to lower the number of out-of-school children in their respective states.

The meeting was attended by SUBEB chairman, permanent secretaries, and executive secretaries from across the country.
