According to a circular issued by the Registrar, G.O Salisu, on August 9, 2024, and addressed to the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent on Monday, students who applied for the loans but had already paid their fees can now request a refund.
It states, "The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has remitted the sum of N201 million only to the university account for the 2023/2024 academic session.

"Any student who receives a NELFUND loan and has already paid session fee levies is eligible for a refund. To apply for a refund, the student must write to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, via the Dean of Students, and provide their account information. Each application must include a photocopy of the original payment receipt.
The student loan plan is President Bola Tinubu's major education project.
Tinubu signed the Access to Higher Education Act less than a month after taking office, establishing a legislative framework for awarding loans to impoverished or low-income Nigerians to help them pay their tuition at Nigerian postsecondary institutions.
The statute, reenacted earlier this year, established NELFUND to handle all loan requests, grants, disbursement, and recovery.
The fund, according to the Act, will be supported from diverse sources and will engage in other constructive activities.
