Candidates wishing to be admitted to the University of Ibadan (UI) through its Open Distance eLearning option can be certain that they would be treated equally with their counterparts on the main campus, according to Prof. Kayode Adebowale, Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

According to him, students enrolled in remote learning programs obtain the same diplomas as their on-campus counterparts upon program completion and are qualified for NYSC service, just as those enrolled in normal mode.
During a press conference at the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre in Ibadan, Adebowale informed reporters that applicants have two choices: the conventional in-person classroom approach, which necessitates UTME results; or the adaptable learning experiences provided by the UIDLC, which integrates online and offline learning options without requiring UTME results.

Adebowale's pledge reaffirms UI's dedication to diversity and fair access for all students, irrespective of their field of study. He declared, "DLC students and their counterparts on the main campus will have access to the same quality of education, resources, and opportunities; there will be no distinction between them."
He explained that because of infrastructural limitations, the physical classroom mode has a limited capacity. As a result, suitable applicants must be chosen through the JAMB UTME and POST UTME, preventing overcrowding in the classroom.

Adebowale went on, saying, "On the other hand, our Open Distance eLearning (ODeL) mode makes use of virtual technology to deliver the curriculum to students anywhere in the world by the same lecturers."
Although the traditional classroom setting is limited by physical space, the online, open, and global learning environment provided by the same renowned UI instructors is available through the ODeL mode.

During his speech, Professor Babatunde Omobowale, the Director of UI DLC, said that the Center has increased working professionals' and entrepreneurs' access to high-quality education for people living in rural places. He said the UI ODeL has emerged as a ray of light for students who, despite logistical or physical obstacles, want to pursue higher education.
He underlined that UI DLC is still a part of UI and added that one benefit of ODeL is that applicants can be admitted to the University of Ibadan without taking the UTME.
"Anyone who did not write the UTME may come and take our exam; if they pass, they will be admitted to the university," he declared.
He encouraged applicants to think about switching to UI-ODeL if they took the UTME and received a score of 40 or higher but did not make the cutoff.
