According to a statement that was made accessible to PUNCH Online on Sunday and signed by Prince Peters Adeyemi, General Secretary of NASU, and Mohammed Ibrahim, National President of SSANU, the deadline it set for the Federal Government to pay its withholding salary would end at midnight on Sunday.

Among other things, the unions demand the implementation of the 2009 agreements with the government, better compensation, earned allowances, and the payment of the four months' worth of delayed earnings.

When the four unions located at universities went on a prolonged strike in 2022, the Federal Government, acting through the Ministry of Labour and Employment, invoked the "No Work, No Pay" policy.

It states: "The most recent development regarding the withheld four months' salaries" is the subject of the Joint Action Committee of Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities' circular JAC/NS/VOL.III/32, dated October 21, 2024.

"The circular in question gave the Federal Government seven days to take the necessary action regarding our requests for the payment of unpaid four months' salaries and the execution of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Federal Government on August 20, 2022, which expires at midnight on Sunday, October 27, 2024."
