According to reports, the state-owned tertiary institution in Oyo issued a paper showing yet another hike in tuition fees for both returning and new students getting ready for a new school year. This occurred less than a year after the state government mandated a comparable increase in tuition for the institution's students.
Oyo APC challenged Governor Seyi Makinde to address the claims that he was delaying the payment of the agreed-upon amount as compensation to the Osun state government at the time of the termination of the joint ownership of the institution approximately four years ago. The statement was released on Thursday and provided to journalists in Ibadan by its publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare.

"For the second time in a year, Governor Makinde has once again shown himself to be anti-poor by imposing yet another outrageous increase in tuition fees on LAUTECH students.
It is implied that the PDP administration is indifferent to the future of poor youngsters whose only opportunity to receive a university degree depends on the reasonable tuition that public institutions like Oyo State-owned LAUTECH are expected to charge.
The difficulties of many underprivileged students have been made worse by the fact that an ordinary student accepted to LAUTECH would inevitably encounter some difficulties throughout his time there, particularly concerning lodging and transportation.
Therefore, considering that the tuition fee was N106,000 in 2019 when Governor Makinde took office, the Oyo State government's decision to raise the tuition fees for non-indigene students from N404,200 to N782,200 and for indigenous students from N316,700 to N694,700, respectively, is an extreme example of insensitivity, vice, and hypocrisy.
Actually, the obvious suffering of the majority of parents who have been traumatized since the most recent raise was revealed by the institution's administration, bringing this unsightly development to our attention.
Even though we believe that no parent or guardian should have to die or experience depression while trying to educate their children or wards, it is equally critical that the Makinde administration understand that no public school should be used as a source of income so that a select few in the corridor of power can continue to enrich themselves.
