The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that Kabir Alabi Garba's novel, The Lekki Headmaster, will be the designated reading material for the Use of English exam in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a tweet on its official account (@JAMBHQ) at 3:07 PM on Wednesday, JAMB informed potential candidates about this update and urged them to remain attentive as details regarding the registration for the 2025 UTME/Direct Entry (DE) will be revealed soon.
“Attention prospective candidates for the 2025 UTME! We are happy to announce that The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba has been selected as the approved reading text for the Use of English exam.

“Additional information about the UTME/DE registration will be communicated shortly. Please keep an eye out for updates,” the tweet read.
This newly approved book replaces ‘The Life Changer’ by Khadija Abubakar Jalli, which was previously used for recent UTME examinations.
Earlier on Tuesday, JAMB dismissed accusations regarding excessive spending on meals, fumigation, and other costs associated with 2024, labeling the assertions as unfounded and misleading.
During a meeting with the Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on Finance on Monday, January 13, 2025, JAMB clarified that its report focused solely on the budget proposal for 2025.
