To prevent a recurrence of the tragic incident that claimed the lives of 35 children at a holiday funfair, the Oyo State government has issued a firm warning to corporations, event organizers, and anyone organizing elaborate celebrations in observance of St. Valentine’s Day to comply with the state's established rules and guidelines.

On Tuesday in Ibadan, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, highlighted that numerous broadcast stations have been airing advertisements and promotions encouraging the public to celebrate Valentine’s Day at various locations.

He also insisted that event planners, security, and medical personnel must agree on the selection of venues.
Oyelade stated that the state’s Ministry of Health and the hospital management board must participate, along with private hospitals when needed, to guarantee sufficient medical assistance.
The commissioner cautioned that anyone who violates this directive will face severe legal consequences.
He reminded the public that the state is still grieving the tragic loss of 35 children at a gathering in Ibadan on December 18, 2024.
