UI Set to Unveil New Grading System, Minimum Units & GES Changes

University of Ibadan is set to release a newly approved grading system. This indicates transition from 4.0 Grading System to 5.0 Grading System. 


Kindly note that the institution is yet to announce this on their official website and it is said to kick start with the incoming academic session by April, 2025.

The incoming newly approved grades for students who have satisfactorily completed the course of study are as follows:

Letter Grades & Grade Points

  • A (70% and above) – 5.0
  • B (60-69%) – 4.0
  • C (50-59%) – 3.0
  • D (45-49%) – 2.0
  • E (40-44%) – 1.0
  • F (Below 40%) – 0.0

CGPA Ranges for Degree Classification

  • 4.50 – 5.00 → First Class Honours
  • 3.50 – 4.49 → Second Class Honours (Upper Division)
  • 2.50 – 3.49 → Second Class Honours (Lower Division)
  • 1.50 – 2.49 → Third Class Honours
  • 1.00 – 1.49 → Pass

No student whose CGPA is less than 1.0 shall be awarded a degree.
