The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially announced the opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The loan portal will be accessible from Thursday, October 23, 2025, and will be close on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
According to NELFUND, the initiative aims to promote inclusive access to higher education and ease the financial burden on students across accredited tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The Fund expressed appreciation to all tertiary institutions nationwide for their continued collaboration and urged them to ensure a smooth and transparent loan process for all eligible students.
In preparation for the loan rollout, institutions have been advised to update and upload verified records of both returning and newly admitted students on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal, as this step is crucial for successful loan processing and disbursement.
NELFUND emphasized that returning and newly admitted students of accredited institutions are eligible to apply. Fresh students may complete their applications using either their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a Matric Number.

The Fund also encouraged institutions to show understanding in enforcing registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement, stressing that flexibility is key to ensuring no student loses access to education due to financial constraints.
In addition, institutions that have not yet commenced their 2025/2026 academic session are required to formally notify NELFUND with their approved academic calendars to enable proper scheduling and adjustment.
NELFUND further appealed to schools to consider granting temporary registration to students whose loan applications are still being processed, ensuring that every eligible student can continue their studies while awaiting fund release.
