Airtel Nigeria has introduced a Smartphone Financing Programme to help Nigerians using 2G or 3G phones upgrade easily to fast 4G upgrade devices.
The programme is designed to reduce the digital divide, make smartphones more affordable for users, and expand access to essential digital services and modern mobile technology.
The initiative launches with the Itel A50, a reliable 4G smartphone selected to deliver a better and more efficient mobile experience for users.

How the payment plan works
- You pay a down payment of N19,000 or N21,000 (depending on the offer).
- You get the phone immediately after onboarding.
- You complete payment through weekly instalments via SmartCash.
Who can apply
- You must be an active Airtel subscriber.
- You must have a registered SmartCash account.
- You must have a valid ID: NIN, Voter’s Card, or Driver’s Licence.

Dial *492# on your Airtel line to see if you qualify for the programme.
Onboarding process
- If eligible, visit any Airtel-owned retail shop.
- Complete verification and paperwork.
- You will be asked to give consent for data processing by Intelligra (for financing assessment).
How payment is handled
All instalment payments are processed exclusively through SmartCash, which provides a secure and easily trackable transaction system.

According to Airtel’s CEO, smartphones open doors to learning, work, communication, and broader digital access, and the goal of the programme is to make 4G devices accessible without financial pressure while empowering Nigerians and supporting a more connected future.
Airtel’s Director of Marketing also explained that the goal is to eliminate financial barriers to smartphone ownership, simplify and sustain the financing process through SmartCash and intelligent scoring systems, and support inclusive digital growth nationwide.
