In accordance with the seven-day national mourning declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Federal Government has designated Tuesday, July 15, 2025, as a public holiday to pay tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, shared this information in a statement issued on behalf of the Federal Government, following the President’s consent.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the holiday serves as a gesture of respect for the late President’s dedicated service to Nigeria, his contribution to the enhancement of democracy, and his enduring influence on national progress.

“President Muhammadu Buhari exemplified integrity and a profound dedication to the unity and advancement of Nigeria,” he stated, encouraging citizens to utilize the day to contemplate his legacy and foster peace, unity, and patriotism.

National flags will be flown at half-mast throughout the mourning period, which commenced on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The Federal Government also extended its sincere condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, praying for the eternal peace of the former President’s soul.
