Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) has officially opened applications for the fifth edition of the FMN Prize for Cassava Innovation (PFI 5.0).
The 2026 competition is dedicated to advancing innovative practices in cassava production and processing, with a focus on improving efficiency, sustainability, value addition, and competitiveness across Nigeria’s cassava value chain.

The initiative is part of FMN’s broader commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s food and agro-allied sector by encouraging practical, scalable, and impact-driven solutions.
About the FMN Prize for Innovation
The FMN Prize for Innovation is designed to stimulate transformative ideas that address real challenges within Nigeria’s agricultural ecosystem. This year’s edition is structured into two major categories to encourage both enterprise-based innovation and academic research-driven solutions.
Categories, Eligibility and Prize Structure
SME Category
This category is open to registered Nigerian Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating within the food and agro-allied sector.
Eligible applicants must be developing innovative solutions in cassava production, processing, or value addition.
Prizes for the SME category are as follows:
- First Prize: ₦5,000,000
- Second Prize: ₦3,000,000
- Third Prize: ₦2,000,000

Student Category
The student category is open to Nigerian undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in recognized tertiary institutions.
Applicants must propose innovative solutions that address challenges in cassava production and processing.
Prizes for the student category are:
- First Prize: ₦300,000
- Second Prize: ₦200,000
- Third Prize: ₦100,000
Focus Area: Innovative Practices in Cassava
Submissions should demonstrate measurable impact in areas such as improved productivity and yield optimization, efficient processing technologies, reduction of post-harvest losses, sustainable and climate-smart practices, market expansion, value-chain enhancement, or technological integration including automation, digitization, or biotechnology.
Entries will be evaluated based on innovation, feasibility, scalability, sustainability, and overall impact within Nigeria’s cassava ecosystem.
Application Deadline
The deadline for submission of applications is March 16, 2026.
