The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the 2nd phase of the Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across Nigeria.
The process began with an online registration phase starting from January 5, 2026, until April 17, 2026, through the online INEC portal.
After completing the online registration, applicants are expected to visit any designated INEC Local Government Area Office or State Office to finalize their physical (in-person) registration.
For those unable to register online, INEC has assured that they can visit any approved registration center to complete the process physically.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Register for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on INEC portal
INEC has created different buttons on the CVR Portal to make the process seamless:
1. New Registration
If you have never registered before, visit CVR Official Portal.
Click on the New Voter Pre-registration button and fill in the required details. Then, proceed to your nearest centre to complete your in-person registration.
2. Information Review
If you registered previously but have not updated your details (photo, etc.) since June 28, 2021, click the Voter Information Review button to revalidate.
3. Locate a Registration Centre
Use the Locate Registration Centre button to find the closest registration point at INEC State and LGA Offices, or other designated centres.
4. Transfer
If you are a registered voter but wish to change your voting location, click the Transfer button to apply.
5. Update Information
To update or correct details on your voter’s card (name, address, etc.), click the Information Update button.
6. Uncollected PVC
If you previously registered but have not collected your PVC, click the Uncollected PVC button to know where to pick it up.
7. Lost or Damaged PVC
If your PVC has been lost or damaged, click the Lost or Damaged PVC button to apply for a replacement.

Apart from new registrations, the CVR exercise will also address:
- Complaints about lost, damaged, or defective PVCs
- Transfer of registration from one location to another
- Correction of personal details (such as name, date of birth, address, or age discrepancies)
To make the process easier, INEC has launched new features on the CVR Portal, where citizens can:
- Check the status of their voter card
- Find the location of their nearest registration or collection centre
- Track where to collect unclaimed PVCs
Currently, according to INEC’s records, Nigeria has over 93 million registered voters across 176,846 polling units nationwide.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, encouraged all eligible Nigerians to take part in the exercise, emphasizing:
“Your PVC is your key to making your voice heard in our democratic process. We urge every eligible voter to register, update their information, collect their PVCs, and actively participate in shaping the future of our country.”
Prof. Yakubu also noted that registered voters in Anambra State who have not yet collected their PVCs can now do so at designated collection centres.

CVR and the 2027 Elections
Electoral advocate Obinna Egbogidi, convener of the Rivers Peace Initiative, called on Nigerians—especially youths who have just turned 18—to seize this opportunity.
He stressed that the CVR marks the beginning of activities for the 2027 General Elections, and urged citizens not to take it lightly:
“If you have ever been a victim of bad governance or a beneficiary of good governance, then this CVR is your chance to decide your future. I strongly encourage young people, especially those who have just turned 18, to register and get their voter’s card.”

This CVR is not just an administrative exercise. It is the gateway to full participation in the 2027 elections. With over 93 million registered voters already, every additional registration strengthens Nigeria’s democracy.
