The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially extended the application deadline for the 2025/2026 academic session, shifting the closing date from January 31, 2026, to February 27, 2026.
According to the Fund, the extension is intended to give more students sufficient time to complete and submit their applications, ensuring that eligible Nigerians are not left out due to tight timelines or unforeseen delays.
Commenting on the decision, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, said the move reflects the agency’s commitment to fairness and inclusion in access to education financing.

“This extension reflects our commitment to inclusivity and access. We understand that some applicants may require additional time to complete their submissions, and this decision ensures that every eligible Nigerian student has a fair opportunity to benefit from the Fund,” he stated.
NELFUND has therefore urged students who have not applied, as well as those with incomplete applications, to use the extended window to finalize their submissions before the new deadline.
The Fund reiterated that the student loan scheme remains a key part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve access to higher education and reduce financial barriers for Nigerian students.
