NERD Clearance Slip is part of the newly enforced requirement by the Federal Government of Nigeria for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Mobilization and NYSC Exemption. It is the official process of verifying and approving your academic credentials and project reports

It ensures your certificates, transcripts, results, and academic works (like project reports, theses, and dissertations) are genuine and uploaded into Nigeria’s National Education Research & Data (NERD) Database which is also known as the National Central Verification System (NCVS).

Once verified, your records become:

  • Permanent and tamper-proof
  • Instantly verifiable nationwide
  • Linked to a unique National Credential Number (NCN)

These verified records are useful for: NYSC mobilization, Job verification and background checks and Embassy or foreign study verification.

NERD Clearance Slip Roles and Responsibilities for Institutions, Project Reports, and Students

All participating institutions are expected and required to appoint key officials to manage the NERD clearance process. The NERD Focal Officer (NFO), appointed by the Vice-Chancellor or Provost, oversees all institutional activities related to NERD.

The NERD Record Officer (NRO) is responsible for maintaining and verifying academic records to ensure their authenticity, while the NERD Digitisation Officer (NDO) handles the technical aspects of uploading and managing data within the institution’s ICT framework.

Institutions are required to upload all verified academic credentials including certificates, transcripts, and results to the NERD platform. Before submission, they must confirm the authenticity of every record.

Once verified, each document is assigned a National Credential Number (NCN) and embedded with a QR security code for easy verification. Heads of Department (HODs) and Supervisors must review and confirm the originality of each submission of student project reports before it goes live on the system.

Based on the approved policy, participating institutions will receive 40% of the proceeds, while the remaining share is allocated to NERD, relevant regulators, and the Federal Ministry of Education.

Final Important Notices and Key Takeaways on NERD Clearance and Onboarding Process

Since the NERD programme is still new, users (Institutions, Project Reports, and Students) should expect a few system adjustments during its early stages.

However, no graduate will be left behind, as a temporary relaxation has been introduced to support NYSC mobilisation. Starting from January 2026, all Supervisors and Heads of Department (HODs) will be required to verify students’ projects through the official NERD digital system.

Institutions are advised to begin onboarding their students early particularly those in 200 to 400 levels to prevent future delays.

Meanwhile, freshmen (100-level students) will be automatically included through the National Students’ Clearing House (NSCH). Additionally, the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) will now require evidence of NERD submission before processing any SIWES fund or refund applications.
