The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that beginning from the 2025 Batch C mobilization exercise, only graduates who obtain and upload their NERD (Nigeria Education Reposition and Databank) clearance slips will be eligible for mobilization into the one-year mandatory service.
This was contained in an official circular dated 7th October 2025, issued from the NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Abuja, and signed by Mrs. R.O. Idaewor, the Director of Corps Mobilisation, on behalf of the Director-General.

The circular, addressed to all Heads and Registrars of Corps-Producing Institutions (CPIs), titled “Service-Wide Compliance with the Provisions of the Nigeria Education Reposition and Databank (NERD) Policy”, directs institutions to fully comply with the new federal policy.
According to the notice, the directive follows the Federal Executive Council’s (FEC) approval of the NERD policy, as conveyed through a circular from the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) dated 8th August 2025.
Mrs. Idaewor stated that, in line with the new directive, “only uploads with NERD clearance will be processed for mobilization.” This means that the NYSC will no longer accept graduate data submissions that lack proof of clearance from the NERD portal.
The circular further urged all institutions to inform their graduates to report to the orientation camps with their NERD clearance slips, as it is now part of the mandatory requirements for registration at the camp.
The NYSC expressed appreciation to all institutions for their continued cooperation and emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to this new directive to ensure smooth mobilization.

What this means for Corps Members (CMs) and Prospective Corps Members (PCMs)
1. NERD Clearance is now mandatory
Starting from 2025 Batch C, no graduate will be mobilized for NYSC without obtaining NERD clearance. This clearance confirms that the graduate’s educational records have been verified and stored in the Nigeria Education Reposition and Databank.
2. Upload requirements
During mobilization, each institution must upload graduate details that include valid NERD clearance data. Without it, the graduate’s name will not appear on the NYSC mobilization list.
3. Orientation camp registration
PCMs must print and bring their NERD clearance slips to the orientation camp. This will now be checked alongside other documents (Call-up letter, green card, statement of result, etc.) before registration.
4. For Corps Members already in service
Current corps members (especially those from 2025 Batch A and B) may not be affected directly, but the new policy sets a precedent future mobilizations will be fully integrated with the NERD database.
5. For institutions
Universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education must ensure their graduates are properly cleared through the NERD portal before submission to NYSC. Failure to comply may delay mobilization or cause data rejection.
