Sawyerr indicated that NELFUND processed 364,042 applications within 229 days, yielding an average of 1,000 applications every day.

He stated: “In just 220 days, we have received an impressive 364,042 applications, averaging about 1,000 applications daily. I am delighted to report that N22,736,960,971 has been disbursed to cover institutional fees for 240 institutions, directly impacting 215,514 students. Additionally, a total of N12,818,960,000 has been allocated for upkeep support, benefitting 169,114 students, each receiving N20,000 monthly to assist with living expenses.
“In our commitment to efficiency, transparency, and ongoing enhancement, we are here today to formally announce the closing of the 2023/2024 application cycle on our student loan portal. This transition is vital as we get ready to launch the 2024/2025 application cycle.
“The student loan application portal for the 2023/2024 academic year will officially close on February 21, 2025. We want to assure all applicants who submitted their applications before this deadline that their submissions will be processed according to our established guidelines. The NELFUND managing director emphasized that moving into the 2024/2025 cycle exemplifies the organization’s dedication to efficiency, transparency, and the ongoing enhancement of the program.
He encouraged prospective applicants to begin their preparations by gathering the necessary documents, assuring those who submit their applications on time that their applications will be reviewed in accordance with NELFUND’s established procedures.

Sawyerr confirmed that those who manage to submit their applications before the deadline will have their submissions processed in line with the fund’s established guidelines.
He stated: “Our team is committed to ensuring a fair and timely review of all pending applications.

“This transition is an essential step in streamlining our operations, aligning with the academic calendar, and improving our ability to process applications effectively.
“NELFUND is committed to offering financial assistance to students, ensuring that no eligible individual is denied educational opportunities due to financial limitations.”
Sawyerr mentioned that the agency is updating its student database to guarantee that only active students receive support, especially as they transition into the 2024-2025 academic session.
He attributed any delays in processing applications to the institutions that need to verify students’ information, explaining that this delay impacts the disbursement of both institutional fees and upkeep support.
He pointed out that upkeep payments are issued only after confirming the institutional fees, which creates a gap of one or two weeks between these payments.

Since the launch of the fund, numerous students across tertiary institutions have received assistance.

As of February 3, 2025, NELFUND reported that it had processed 364,042 applications for student loans and had allocated N20,074,050,000 for institutional fees, aiding 192,906 students.
An additional N12,818,960,000 was designated for 169,114 students, each receiving a monthly stipend of N20,000 for living expenses.
Despite this, students from various institutions, including University of Nigeria Nsukka, Obafemi Awolowo University, Federal University Lokoja, Ladoke Akintola University, and others in Northern Nigeria, voiced their dissatisfaction regarding the delay in receiving their approved loans in response to NELFUND’s verified posts on X throughout the week.
Many students pointed out that their school portals were closing soon, with exams just around the corner.

On Saturday, Musty Jr (@JrMusty58254) commented, “I study at the University of Maiduguri. I applied and was verified back in August, but I haven’t received any assistance from this initiative. Please, do something for us before next Wednesday. I am facing a serious financial crisis!”
In a similar vein, Orji Oyidiya Chukwu (@OyidiyaOrji) expressed worry on Sunday by tweeting, “@NELFUND, my brother hasn’t gotten his upkeep money or institutional fees, and UNIZIK is closing its portal on Friday, February 14. Please, assist!”
By Monday, more students shared their frustrations. Stephen Ayobami from Federal University Lokoja in Kogi wrote, “@NELFUND, please don’t forget us. We applied since May of last year and have been verified, yet there’s been no approval or disbursement.
“Many students are in limbo as our school portal is closing this week, and exams are set to start on the 10th of next month!”
At Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano, the Public Relations Officer of the Students’ Union, Muhammad Nura, released a circular on Tuesday, warning that failing to pay tuition fees before the deadline could lead to serious problems for students.
Confirming the lack of disbursement, Abba Yusuf from the same university stated, “Why haven’t the funds for Aliko Dangote University students been released? Both upkeep and institutional fees are still unpaid. We have been verified since August 2024, yet we have not received any payment!”
In the same manner, Bryan (@Chime69.23h), a student at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, remarked, “I have been verified since June 2024, yet I still have not received any disbursement—neither for institutional fees nor upkeep. My school has launched a new academic session, and I need to pay my fees!”
Some Polytechnic students also voiced their concerns. Oladiran Kayode noted that many students at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, had yet to receive their institutional and upkeep loans.

Meanwhile, Kolapo James Ayomi (@kolapojames01) from LAUTECH expressed frustration, saying, “Tests and exams have already started, but we cannot register our courses without settling our tuition fees!”
In an interview with Saturday PUNCH, a NELFUND official, who wished to remain anonymous due to a lack of authorization to discuss the issue, attributed the disbursement delays to the schools.
The source explained, “Often, these problems do not stem from us. Once we approve the payments, we return the students’ information to the schools for verification.
“The schools are then expected to confirm the validity of the students and the tuition fees before we can proceed. However, many institutions do not respond in a timely manner. We are compelled to keep sending emails and reminders.”

    Your account is temporarily banned

If you’ve received a notification on WhatsApp saying, “Your account is temporarily banned,” don’t panic!

Most times, this often happens when you violate WhatsApp’s terms of service, but in most cases, you can regain access within 24 hours.

In this guide, I’ll explain why WhatsApp temporarily bans accounts, how long the ban lasts, and the steps to fix it quickly.

Why Did WhatsApp Temporarily Ban Your Account?

WhatsApp enforces strict rules to protect users from spam, abuse, and unauthorized activities.

Trust me, if this isn’t done the platform won’t be regulated as it is right now. There will have been a lot of abuses, misinformation as fraudulent practices.
Your account might be banned if you engage in the following:

✅ Use Modded WhatsApp Versions (e.g., GBWhatsApp, WhatsApp Plus)

✅ Send Bulk or Spam Messages

✅ Get Reported by Many Users

✅ Use Bots or Auto-Reply Tools

✅ Join Too Many Groups Quickly

✅ Engage in Suspicious or Illegal Activities

If you are guilty of any of these, you must stop immediately to prevent a permanent ban.

Please note, if you don’t cease from the above three act, WhatsApp is coming for your account with permanent ban.

How Long Does a Temporary Ban Last?

Being faced with this, how long does a temporary ban last?

The ban duration varies based on the violation and whether you’re a repeat offender. Usually, bans last:

    🕒 A few hours (First-time offense)

🕒 Up to 24 hours (Repeated violations)

Making sure you keep a composed and assured attitude is important; maintain eye contact while speaking and respond professionally, even if the panel holds a different opinion than yours.
If you’re unsure about an answer, be honest yet diplomatic by recognizing the viewpoint and proposing it as a possible subject for further exploration.
This method reflects respect, confidence, and a readiness to partake in thoughtful discussions.

Common Mistakes to Avoid for Successful Project Defense

When delivering a presentation, try not to read directly from your slides; instead, communicate conversationally to better connect with your audience.
Keep your slides uncluttered and easy to comprehend by opting for bullet points instead of filling them with excessive text.
Also, maintain a consistent and clear speaking rhythm, avoiding both rushing and speaking too slowly.
Make you use plain and straightforward language to make sure your audience can easily grasp your message.
If you encounter criticism or tough questions, remain composed and professional instead of getting defensive, as this shows confidence and maturity.

Final Tips for a Successful Defense

Dressing appropriately is essential, as first impressions greatly influence the panel’s perception of you.
Arriving ahead of time enables you to arrange your slides, gather your thoughts, and alleviate anxiety before the defense starts.
Having a printed copy of your project allows you to easily refer to important points if necessary, indicating that you are well-prepared.
Finally, maintaining an optimistic attitude and projecting confidence can create a memorable impression on the panel, demonstrating that you genuinely comprehend and have faith in your research.

  • JAMB sets 320 UTME Score benchmark for under-16 candidates

    jamb 2025 under 16

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced that candidates younger than 16 may be eligible for admission into higher education institutions if they prove their academic excellence by achieving a score of 80 percent or higher in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Considering that the UTME is scored out of 400 marks, a score of 80 percent equates to at least 320 marks.

    Related News

This announcement comes after the recent revision of the mandatory admission age limit of 18 that was set by the former Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman.

Currently, the Minister of Education, Olatunji Alausa, has restored the prior age benchmark of 16 years, a decision that has received broad support from education sector stakeholders.

    MORE FOR YOU

During a recent gathering with significant stakeholders—including Chief External Examiners, Chief Technical Advisors, and members of the Equal Opportunity Group—JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, indicated that while the standard age requirement remains at 16, exceptionally qualified candidates under this age may be permitted admission under specific conditions.

A transcript from the meeting, featured in JAMB’s bulletin, quoted Oloyede stating: “We are adhering to the law. Age is a vital factor in maturity and educational progress. If age limits were irrelevant, we would not impose them for leadership roles, such as local government chairmanship. Biological age correlates with intellectual development, and while regulations do exist, there should be provisions for exceptions.

“The Education Minister has made it clear that the minimum admission age continues to be 16. Yet, we recognize that some exceptionally talented youngsters exist. We must not ignore these individuals. We should identify them and allow them to take the exams.”

Oloyede stressed that outstanding students must show remarkable academic performance across various assessments, including the UTME, WASSCE, Post-UTME, and GCE O/Level.

“If a candidate younger than 16 obtains a score of 200 out of 400 in the UTME, can they genuinely be deemed exceptional? Conversely, if they attain 80 percent (320/400), that indicates extraordinary capability and deserves consideration,” he remarked.

    MORE FOR YOU

However, he expressed worries about the involvement of private universities in accepting underage students, noting that a significant number of these candidates face academic challenges, with as many as 80 percent eventually transferring to other programs because of poor performance.

Oloyede also criticized parents who manipulate birth records in attempts to secure premature admission for their children, only to later seek to adjust their ages for eligibility in the National Youth Service Corps program.

Recently in Lagos, the JAMB Registrar revealed that the examination board has implemented a mock UTME for younger candidates.

Oloyede clarified that this mock UTME is not intended for university admission but is meant for underage individuals looking to assess their capabilities.

“We will begin selling forms from January 31st to March 5th. The mock exam is scheduled for February 23rd, followed by the UTME on March 8th,” the JAMB Registrar stated.
