The Federal Government approved an increase in the statutory allocation of Universal Basic Education matching payments available to state governments for infrastructure projects, bringing the total to N3,554,642,584.46.

Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, announced during a five-day finance training session for SUBEB Chairmen and Board Secretaries in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital.
According to UBEC Public Relations Officer David Apeh, the executive secretary, the increased matching grants for states undertaking projects are funded by 2% of Nigeria’s consolidated revenue budget for basic education assistance.
Bobboyi stated that the permission occurred following the passage of the 2024 Appropriation Bill and subsequent confirmation into law.

“This is quite an astonishing sum, isn’t it? You know how much we had before. Of course, we must examine how inflation has influenced the grants.
The meeting was attended by SUBEB chairman, permanent secretaries, and executive secretaries from across the country.
