The Vice-Chancellor of the Premier University of Ibadan , Professor Kayode Adebowale encourages new students to maintain excellence and integrity
The University of Ibadan (UI) has officially accepted 4,649 newly admitted students into different academic programs for the 2024/2025 academic year.
The matriculation ceremony, which took place on Wednesday at the International Conference Centre, Ibadan, brought together university officials, family members, and supporters to celebrate the students’ official entrance into the university.
During the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, revealed that 11,912 candidates took part in the university’s post-UTME screening after achieving the minimum UTME score requirement of 200. From this group, 7,017 scored 50 percent or more, with 4,411 gaining admission via UTME and 238 through the Direct Entry option.
Professor Adebowale congratulated the new students and urged them to carry forward the university’s legacy of excellence, integrity, discipline, and resilience. He encouraged them to utilize the university’s academic and moral resources to forge a successful future.

In his address to the students, alumnus and industry expert Mr. Olukayode Aiyenuyo urged them to be intentional about their development, highlighting the importance of balancing ambition with character.
He made a distinction between ‘being’ and ‘doing’, explaining that while ‘doing’ pertains to achievements and tasks, ‘being’ relates to identity and purpose. “Who you decide to be is significantly more important than what you aim to accomplish,” he stated.
Aiyenuyo encouraged the students to appreciate diversity, seek knowledge, and ensure their actions are aligned with a clear purpose.
“Success does not come without effort. Good grades do not result from ease. Life is too precious to be consumed by stress. Learn to face challenges with poise,” he concluded.
The ceremony represented a crucial milestone for the newly admitted students as they embarked on their academic journey at Nigeria’s leading university.
