Wema Bank has announced the commencement of applications for its 2026 Bankers-in-Training (Sales) Programme, a full-time graduate trainee initiative designed to groom young professionals for careers in sales and relationship management within the banking industry.
The Wema Bank Bankers in Training Programme Application is structured to equip participants with both foundational and advanced commercial banking skills. It combines classroom learning, practical field exposure, and mentorship to prepare trainees for long-term career growth in corporate, retail, commercial, and SME banking segments.

Training sessions will be conducted regionally across Nigeria, including Lagos and Ibadan (South-West), Abuja (North), and Port Harcourt (South-East, Mid-West, and South-South regions).
Programme Structure and Career Progression
The Bankers-in-Training Programme is designed in three key phases:
Phase 1
Foundational classroom training covering banking operations, financial products, credit analysis, and sales strategies.
Phase 2
Shadowing and field immersion, where trainees gain hands-on experience.
Phase 3
Full deployment into the field, transitioning into a Relationship Manager role.

Post-Training Responsibilities
Upon completion of the classroom phase, trainees will be expected to:
- Develop and execute data-driven sales strategies to attract new customers and grow deposits and loan portfolios.
- Conduct market research to identify business opportunities and track competitor activities.
- Meet and exceed monthly sales targets through structured prospecting and pipeline management.
- Provide quality customer support and resolve client inquiries efficiently.
- Work with credit and risk teams to assess loan documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Maintain accurate sales records and submit performance reports to management.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Minimum of Second Class Upper degree (or equivalent) in a business or social science discipline from an accredited university.
2. At least five credits in WAEC, NECO, or equivalent, including Mathematics and English.
3. Not older than 26 years at the time of application.
4. Completion of NYSC with a valid discharge certificate.
5. Strong interest in sales, customer relationship management, and financial services.
6. While not mandatory, up to two years of experience in sales or relationship management is considered an added advantage.
7. Candidates must also demonstrate strong communication, negotiation, analytical, and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work in a target-driven environment.
