Applications are now open for the SFDP Health Innovation Challenge 2026, an opportunity created to support young Nigerians developing practical and affordable solutions to public health problems.
The challenge awards $300 mini-grants to each of the top three selected teams to help turn innovative ideas into real-life community health projects.
This initiative is organised by the Society for Disease Prevention (SFDP) and is tailored for students and early-career professionals who are passionate about improving health outcomes through innovation, prevention strategies, and grassroots action.

What You Should Know About the SFDP Health Innovation Challenge 2026
The Society for Disease Prevention (SFDP) is a registered non-profit organisation committed to tackling public health challenges through education, technology-driven solutions, and community-focused interventions.
The Health Innovation Challenge was created to move beyond theory and support simple, implementable ideas that can make a measurable difference within Nigerian communities.
SFDP places strong emphasis on low-cost, scalable solutions that can be tested and executed within a short period.

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the 2026 challenge, applicants must meet the following conditions:
1. Applications must be submitted by teams of 3–5 members
2. All participants must be based in Nigeria
3. Team members must be under 30 years old
4. At least one member must be studying or working in a health-related discipline
5. Proposed projects must be low-cost and suitable for small-scale implementation
6. Ideas must address real and existing public health issues in Nigeria

- Public health and health sciences students
- Medical, nursing, pharmacy, and allied health trainees
- Young health-tech innovators
- Community health workers and NGO volunteers

Selection Process
Submitted proposals will be reviewed based on:
- Importance and relevance of the health problem identified
- Practicality and affordability of the proposed solution
- Potential impact on local Nigerian communities
- Strength and diversity of the team’s expertise
- Feasibility of implementing the project within a limited timeframe

Application Closes: January 18, 2026
Applications submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed. Early submission is strongly encouraged.
