The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the PTDF Overseas Scholarship 2026/2027 academic session for eligible Nigerians willing to embark on their Masters and/or PhD programme.
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has officially opened applications for the 2026/2027 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme (OSS). This prestigious, fully funded programme gives qualified Nigerians the opportunity to study MSc and PhD courses in top international universities.
The scholarship is aimed at building high-level manpower for Nigeria’s oil, gas, energy, and petroleum-related sectors by supporting advanced training and research in world-class institutions.

About the PTDF Overseas Scholarship
The PTDF scholarship allows successful candidates to study in approved universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Malaysia, as well as through a split-site arrangement with the PTDF College of Petroleum and Energy Studies (CPESK), Kaduna.
The programme is part of the Federal Government’s long-term plan to strengthen Nigeria’s technical capacity in energy and petroleum development.
What the PTDF Overseas Scholarship Covers
All successful applicants will enjoy full financial sponsorship, which includes:
- Full payment of tuition fees
- Return flight tickets to and from the study country
- Health insurance for the duration of the programme
- Living and accommodation allowances
- Research bench fees (where applicable)
With these covered, scholars can focus entirely on their academic work and research.
Who Can Apply?
General Requirements
Applicants must:
1. Be Nigerian citizens
2. Have a valid National Identification Number (NIN)
3. Choose a course relevant to oil, gas, energy, or petroleum studies
4. Apply only to PTDF-approved partner universities

Requirements for MSc Applicants
At least a Second Class Upper (2:1) degree, or Second Class Lower (2:2) with relevant work experience
1. Must have completed NYSC
2. Must be computer literate
3. At least five O’Level credits, including English and Mathematics
4. Must submit a Statement of Purpose (not more than 500 words) explaining why the course is important and how it will benefit Nigeria
Requirements for PhD Applicants
1. Must have completed NYSC
2. Must be computer literate
3. At least a Second Class Lower (2:2) in first degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification
4. At least five O’Level credits, including English and Mathematics
5. Must submit a research proposal (maximum five pages) covering the research topic, background, objectives, methodology, and data collection plan.

PTDF Overseas Scholarship 2026/2027 Required Application Documents
Applicants will be required to upload scanned copies of:
- First degree certificate or statement of result
- NYSC discharge certificate
- O’Level results (WAEC/NECO/GCE/SSCE) with PINs for online verification
- Recent passport photograph
- Local government identification letter
- Master’s degree certificate (for PhD applicants)
- Evidence of professional membership (if applicable)
Shortlisted candidates will later be asked to present original academic transcripts during the interview stage.

Applications submitted after this date will not be considered.
