The World Bank Group has officially opened applications for the 2026 edition of its highly competitive WBG Pioneers Program, inviting qualified undergraduate and postgraduate students from around the world to apply.
The WBG Pioneers Internship is the World Bank Group’s flagship student programme, created to provide young talents with hands-on experience while actively contributing to real global development projects.

About the WBG Pioneers Program
WBG Pioneers is a structured internship programme designed for students who want to gain practical exposure in international development and related fields. Interns work directly with experienced professionals and contribute to projects that support the World Bank Group’s mission of reducing poverty and promoting sustainable development across the world.
Participants are placed in teams working on real development challenges, giving them a rare opportunity to understand how global development policies and programmes are designed, implemented, and evaluated.
Internship Benefits and Location
Interns are paid an hourly wage during the programme and interns are responsible for arranging their own accommodation.
Internship placements are based in Washington, D.C. and in World Bank Group country offices worldwide, depending on operational needs.

Eligibility Criteria for WBG Pioneers Internship Program 2026
To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. Undergraduate Track
Must be a final-year bachelor’s degree student
2. Postgraduate Track
Must be currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD programme
General Requirements
- Applicants may have 0 to 6 years of work experience
- Strong computer and technical skills are an added advantage

How to Apply for WBG Pioneers Internship Program 2026
Applications must be submitted online via the World Bank Group WBG Pioneers Internship 2026 application page. Applicants are required to upload:
1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
2. Statement of Interest
3. Proof of Enrollment or Academic Transcript
- Undergraduate transcripts must show final-year status
- Postgraduate transcripts must show active enrollment in Master’s or PhD programme
Once an application is submitted, no changes can be made. Applicants will receive a confirmation email with an application number.
Selection Timeline
Shortlisted candidates will be contacted by March 2026
Final selections will be completed in March 2026
The internship programme will begin in April 2026
The internship runs from April to September 2026, with flexible start dates within this period
