Applications are currently open for the 2026 United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) Graduate Trainee Program for Nigerian STEM students and recent graduates interested in sustainable energy, climate finance, project operations, and development work.
The programme offers participants an 6 months opportunity to gain practical experience, technical exposure, professional training, and hands-on involvement in sustainable energy initiatives.

About the STEM Trainee Programme
The STEM Trainee Programme is designed to support sustainable energy initiatives in Nigeria under the supervision of the Programme Manager, Gender & Youth.
Successful trainees will join a Nigerian cohort and receive exposure across technical operations, climate finance, project implementation, monitoring, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Support & Operations
Successful trainees will support project implementation and technical activities.
Responsibilities include:
- Support gender and youth-responsive energy projects
- Assist project coordination activities and implementation
- Participate in site visits, audits, and assessments
- Support operational activities across energy projects
2. Financial Platform Support & Training
Trainees will gain exposure to climate finance and project financing processes.
Responsibilities include:
- Support project data validation and analysis
- Assist with training materials and knowledge sharing
- Support financial modelling activities
- Track financing commitments and funding opportunities
3. Monitoring, Research & Reporting
Participants will contribute to project monitoring and data activities.
Responsibilities include:
- Support data collection exercises
- Conduct market research and analysis
- Support reporting and performance monitoring
- Track project outcomes and user feedback
4. Communications & Advocacy
Trainees will also support communication activities.
Responsibilities include:
- Create social media content and project visibility materials
- Support advocacy campaigns and stakeholder engagement
- Produce digital content including graphics, posts, and videos

5. Training & Learning Opportunities
Participants will receive structured learning support including:
- Career development and professional mentorship
- Communication and social media training
- Technical training on energy systems and climate finance
- Financial modelling and project evaluation training
- Exposure to monitoring frameworks and reporting systems
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled in Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD programmes OR
- Have graduated within the last three years
Eligible disciplines include:
- Engineering
- Renewable Energy
- Sciences
- Data Science
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Other STEM-related fields
Note: No previous work experience required. Experience in energy, engineering, finance, communications, or related sectors could be an added advantage.
