The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued an official reminder to secondary school principals across Nigerian states concerning the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates registration deadline.
In a circular dated 6th January, 2026, and signed by the Branch Controller, M. A. Akhanemeh, WAEC warned that the registration window for the 2026 May/June WASSCE will officially close on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
According to the letter, the online registration of entries for the 2026 WASSCE for school candidates was opened on Monday, September 22, 2025.

WAEC stated that the registration period has been open for several months and is now approaching its final deadline.
WAEC urged school authorities to ensure that the registration of all their candidates is completed within the stipulated period to avoid disqualification or complications.
What This Means for Schools and Students
WAEC’s message is clear, as any candidate not registered before January 17, 2026, risks missing the 2026 WASSCE examination entirely. School principals and administrators are therefore advised to immediately verify all student entries, ensure all payments and uploads are completed, and confirm that no candidate is left out.
Parents and final-year students are also advised to confirm with their schools that their registration has been completed. If possible, ask for evidence of successful registration.

With the deadline now just days away, WAEC is making it clear that no excuses will be entertained after January 17, 2026. Schools that fail to complete registration on time may deny their students the opportunity to sit for the 2026 WASSCE.
