Heifer Nigeria, an international development organisation, has officially launched the 2026 AYuTe (Agriculture, Youth and Technology) Nigeria Challenge, offering a total grant pool of $40,000 to support innovative youth-led agritech solutions aimed at transforming Nigeria’s food system and improving the incomes of smallholder farmers.
The announcement was made in Abuja during the unveiling of the 2026 edition of the AYuTe initiative, themed: “Catalysing Youth-Led Innovation to Transform Nigeria’s Food Systems.”

What the AYuTe 2026 Challenge Is About
Speaking at the event, Dr. Lekan Tobe, Country Director of Heifer Nigeria, explained that the 2026 edition will focus on identifying climate-smart, practical, and scalable innovations that can solve real problems faced by Nigerian farmers.
According to him, Nigeria’s food security depends largely on the creativity and energy of young innovators.
“The future of our nation’s food security lies in the innovation and energy of our youth. The challenges facing our food systems, from climate change to supply chain inefficiencies, require modern but locally relevant solutions,” he said.
Heifer Nigeria will provide both financial and technical support to help turn promising agritech ideas into scalable solutions capable of strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.

What Kind of Innovations Are Needed?
Heifer Nigeria says it is looking for solutions that can address:
- Climate resilience in agriculture
- Supply chain inefficiencies
- Access to innovative financing
- Market access for smallholder farmers
- Productivity and value chain improvement
Dr. Tobe noted that previous winners have shown that Nigeria has the talent needed to revolutionise agriculture, and the organisation is determined to find the next set of groundbreaking solutions.
Prize Breakdown: How the $40,000 Will Be Shared
According to Mr. Chuba Ezeigwe, Communications Manager at Heifer Nigeria:
- Grand Prize Winner: $20,000
- First Runner-Up: $12,000
- Second Runner-Up: $8,000
In addition to the funding, winners will also receive post-award business advisory and venture support to help them scale their businesses and refine their growth strategies.

All interested and eligible candidate should visit the AYuTe 2026 official website to submit their application. All submitted details and information should be verified before final submission to avoid disqualification.
Strong Focus on Scalable, Farmer-Centric Solutions
Mustapha Abokede, Venture Lead at Wennovation Hub (the programme’s technical partner), explained that the partnership is designed to identify agritech solutions that can survive real market conditions.
“We are going beyond basic incubation. We are focusing on technical feasibility and economic viability to ensure these youth-led innovations can scale and deliver real impact to farmers,” he said.
Success Stories from Previous Winners
Seyi Alabi, Founder of Crop2Cash and winner of AYuTe 2025, said the support from Heifer Nigeria helped his company expand operations across Kano, Kaduna, and other regions, grow its supply chain, and increase warehouse capacity from five to nine.
Similarly, Deborah Oigocho, Co-Founder of Erido Agro and 2025 second runner-up, said the platform helped her reach over 1,000 farmers, launch new digital solutions, and open a rice processing plant in Benue State to strengthen the local rice value chain.

The AYuTe Africa Challenge Nigeria is an enterprise development programme created by Heifer International to identify, support, and scale innovative youth-led agritech businesses.
The initiative runs in several African countries, including: Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Each participating country awards up to $40,000 annually to promising agritech innovators.
