The National Council on Climate Change has opened applications for the Climate Youth Negotiators Programme (CYNP) 2026 Cohort, an initiative designed to strengthen Nigeria’s participation in global climate negotiations.
The programme aims to equip young government professionals with the knowledge and negotiation skills needed to represent Nigeria effectively in international climate discussions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The programme targets young Nigerians currently working in climate-related Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Through a structured training process, selected participants will gain deeper insights into global climate diplomacy, international climate governance, and negotiation strategies used in multilateral climate discussions.

Climate Youth Negotiators Programme (CYNP) 2026 Programme Benefits
Participants selected for the Climate Youth Negotiators Programme will receive mentorship and structured capacity-building support from experienced climate policy experts. The programme also includes six months of intensive training focused on climate negotiation techniques and the operational processes within the UNFCCC system.
In addition, fellows will receive support to participate in COP31, where they will have the opportunity to observe and engage with international climate negotiations. The programme also emphasizes promoting African and developing-country perspectives in global climate policy discussions.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be Nigerian citizens aged 18 to 35 at the time of application
- Be government employees working in climate change–related Ministries, Departments, or Agencies
- Have an interest in strengthening Nigeria’s role in global climate diplomacy and climate policy development
