Google has officially opened applications for the Google Africa Applied AI Lab Program 2026, a new initiative created to support innovative African AI entrepreneurs, startup founders, and researchers developing artificial intelligence solutions for the continent.

About the Google Africa Applied AI Lab Program
The Google Africa Applied AI Lab serves as a commercialization and innovation hub where founders and researchers work alongside Google engineers and AI experts to refine their products, improve market readiness, and accelerate business growth.
Rather than focusing only on technical development, the programme also equips participants with the business knowledge, investor connections, and product strategies needed to build sustainable AI companies with continental impact.
The programme will run from mid-September to early December 2026.

The programme welcomes innovators from across Africa who are building AI-powered products or conducting research with commercial potential.
Eligible applicants include:
- African startup founders.
- AI entrepreneurs.
- Researchers interested in launching AI startups.
- Early-stage to growth-stage startups (Pre-Seed to Series C+).
- Teams developing AI solutions with the potential to create significant impact across Africa.
Although startups with existing commercial traction will receive priority consideration, applicants with strong ideas, innovative solutions, and a clear execution strategy are also encouraged to apply.

Participants can work remotely throughout most of the programme. However, all selected teams will be required to attend the final Demo Day in person at the Accra AI Community Centre in Ghana.
