The African Union (AU) has opened applications for the African Union Innovation Fund 2026 Innovating Education in Africa (IEA) initiative, a continental programme focused on transforming education systems through practical and scalable solutions.
The African Union Innovation Fund targets innovators addressing major challenges such as limited access to education, poor learning outcomes, skills gaps, and inequality across African countries.
It aims to support ideas that can improve how education is delivered while preparing learners for future workforce demands.

About African Union Innovating Education in Africa 2026 Grant
Launched to strengthen education across the continent, the IEA programme identifies and supports impactful innovations that can be expanded and integrated into national systems.
Since its inception, the initiative has supported numerous education solutions and engaged stakeholders across Africa.
The 2026 edition expands its focus to include:
- Basic and secondary education systems
- Higher education development
- Technical and vocational education (TVET)
- Digital learning platforms and systems
- Green skills and sustainability education
- Artificial intelligence and robotics in education
These focus areas align with major African Union strategies aimed at improving education quality and relevance.

Benefits for Selected Education Innovators
Successful applicants will receive a range of financial and non-financial support, including:
- Grant funding of up to $50,000
- Visibility across AU Member States and development partners

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the programme, applicants must meet the following conditions:
1. Must be a citizen of an African Union Member State
2. Must lead an organisation implementing an education innovation
3. The innovation must already be in use with measurable results
4. The organisation must be legally registered and licensed
5. Applicants must be directly responsible for managing the innovation
6. The solution must show potential for expansion and alignment with AU education strategies
Note: Previous recipients of IEA funding are not eligible to apply.

Application Requirements
Applicants will be required to submit the following details:
- A short explanation of the problem being addressed
- A detailed description of the innovation, including how it works and its impact
- Evidence of performance and measurable outcomes
- Explanation of how the innovation supports areas such as digital transformation, sustainability, AI, or skills development
- Proof of business registration and operational license
Only one innovation can be submitted per organisation.
Application Deadline
April 30, 2026 (11:00 PM EAT). Late submissions will not be considered.
