The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially commenced registration for the 2026 WASSCE Private Candidates Examination (Second Series), popularly known as WAEC GCE.
This examination is mainly for candidates who are no longer in secondary school but wish to obtain O’Level results or improve previous grades for admission, employment, and other academic opportunities.

Important Dates for 2026 WAEC GCE Registration
WAEC has released important deadlines that all intending candidates should take seriously. Missing these dates may attract extra fees or prevent candidates from participating in the examination.
Here are the major dates announced so far:
- Normal registration deadline for payment PIN generation: Friday, July 31, 2026
- Deadline for biometric capturing and final online registration: Sunday, August 2, 2026 (11:59 PM)
- Examination period: Expected between October and December 2026
Candidates are encouraged not to wait until the final days before starting the registration process, as network delays and biometric issues are common during rush periods.
WAEC 2026 GCE Registration Fee
WAEC has fixed the registration fee for the 2026 private examination at ₦37,000.
To make the process easier, payments can be completed through approved commercial banks and accredited online payment channels nationwide. Candidates should ensure they receive their official Registration PIN after payment because it will be needed during online registration.

WAEC also noted that “Walk-in Registration” may still be available for late candidates.
However, this option usually comes with a higher fee, often around ₦45,000 or more, and registration must be completed at least 24 hours before the chosen examination paper.
WAEC Introduces Computer-Based WASSCE (CB-WASSCE)
As part of WAEC’s ongoing digital transformation, the 2026 WASSCE Private Examination will continue using the Computer-Based Testing (CBT) format for objective questions.
This means candidates will answer the multiple-choice sections using computers at approved CBT centres, while other components may still follow the traditional format depending on the subject requirements.
Candidates should also note the approved subject combination requirements:
- Minimum of 7 subjects
- Maximum of 9 subjects
- English Language and Mathematics remain compulsory core subjects

Step-by-Step Guide on How to Register for WAEC GCE 2026
Candidates who want to successfully complete their registration should carefully follow the official process below.
Step 1: Obtain Your Registration PIN
Visit any approved WAEC office, accredited bank, or authorized registration agent to pay the registration fee and collect your Registration PIN.
Step 2: Visit the Official Registration Portal
After obtaining your PIN, proceed to the official WAEC registration portal. Carefully fill in your personal information and subject selection correctly.
Step 3: Complete Biometric Capturing
WAEC requires all candidates to complete fingerprint biometric capturing using the approved UareU DigitalPersona scanner.
This can be done at accredited CBT centres or qualified cybercafés with the required equipment.
Step 4: Upload Passport Photograph
Candidates must upload a clear passport photograph in JPEG format with a file size not exceeding 50KB. Ensure the passport is recent and properly visible to avoid disqualification issues.
Step 5: Print Your Photo Card
After successful registration, print your WAEC Photo Card immediately. The Photo Card serves as evidence of registration and contains:
- Examination centre details
- Candidate information
- Result checker PIN

WAEC has also assured candidates living with disabilities that adequate support will be provided during the examination.
